It only need be half a moment, but it needs to be long enough that you feel your body getting into the rhythm of your swing. If you try to do the whole swing at once, then your accuracy will suffer; you will be more likely to lose control of your body's steadfastness as you switch from backward to forward swinging.

After setting out two tees, put your ball on the first one. After setting up the first tee, place the second one about eight inches in front of it. If you need to work on the swing power, then you need to use the leg and trunk muscles. Your swing power is not in your arms. Ok? It's not about how 'strong' your arms are. So just practice that and think about what you're doing with your legs and trunk of your body when it comes to power. This allows you to have a good stance. There will be much less chance of hurting your arms and wrists. It also helps ensure that you will be able to send the ball quite a ways without having to feel some sort of impact trauma in your arms or in the bones of your wrist.
